Wow! 2010 is coming to a close… but a fantastic close at that!

As I reflect on all that has occurred in 2010, I can’t help but smile at how many fantastic new faces I have had the opportunity of meeting and stories I’ve had the opportunity of documenting and sharing. For me, success doesn’t lie in the number of weddings I photographed or the number of portrait shoots I’ve shot, success for me lies in how many lives I’ve had been able to impact with what I truly love to do, photography. I love being able to tell each individuals’ story, whether it be a newborn shoot, wedding day, or lifestyle portrait session. Capturing the essence of who that person is and what they love, is for me, success.

To the clients of 2010: Thank You! I have had SO much fun meeting each and everyone of you and walking your journeys with you. I look forward to continuing our journey in 2011. Best wishes to you this New Year!

To the future clients of 2011: I am SO excited for what 2011 is going to bring! I look forward to capturing those treasured memories and providing you with images that will last a life time!

This morning when I woke up, a world full of frosty colors and treats greeted me! So beautiful! However, tomorrow, I head to a land of 80 degree weather, warm sand and blue water. HAWAII here we come! It’s been a LONG time coming since we’ve been on a vacation and I am SO excited to start the NEW YEAR off right with a little R&R with my family!

To buy professional prints or not to buy professional prints… this is the question.

While away for Christmas I decided to do a few last minute gifts for family members and needed to print a few pictures. 99% of the time I use my professional print vendor, which really does a fabulous job in preserving the true color and quality of my images. However, since I was away and didn’t have the time to print through my vendor, I decided to print a few images through Costco’s 1-Hr Photo Center. And WOW what a rude awakening to what I received. The color was WAY off, the image was dark and the print quality was horrible. And what disappointed and bummed me out even more is knowing that a lot of my clients who have purchased a CD of their images have used Costco to print some of their images. Ugh… Seeing the quality that I received from Costco made me cringe at the thought of knowing that my hard work to make these images look a specific way is being completely distorted because of bad printing.

I did a personal experiment a while back and had a few prints printed at local 1-Hr Photo Centers (Fred Meyers, Walgreens, Target etc – Costco NOT included) and again sighed at the disappointing results. They are horribly off in color and print quality. I plan on making a little display of local Photo Centers vs. my Professional Print Vendor so that my clients can see the quality. And since purchasing a CD of images is the hot commodity these days, I am also providing my clients who choose to purchase a CD of their images with online print resources that they can use to preserve the integrity of my images rather than using 1-Hr Photo Centers that destroys that.

While I can’t control where the images I produce are printed 100% of the time, I can control and guarantee images that are printed through my vendor to be printed at the highest printing standards and quality available. So is it really worth spending money in buying professional prints? In my opinion; ABSOLUTELY. You just spent time, energy, and money on having portraits taken, so why not display those images in the best way possible?

I can honestly say I will NEVER have another image printed through a 1-Hr Photo Center again because I want all of my prints and images to be preserved and portrayed in the best way possible.

I hope you all had a fabulous time with your families for Christmas! We had a fun time spending it with both sides of our family {mine & my hubby’s} down in the Vancouver, WA / Portland, OR area. It was filled with LOTS of food, laughs, and fun. One of my favorite gifts, {besides my Epiphanie Bag, which I will blog on later with pics} is a book my hubby got me called Restore, Recycle, Repurpose. I saw this book in my Country Living Magazine and was SOOOO excited to get it. It is filled with pictures of restored and repurposed furniture and decor. If you know me, you know that I absolutely looooove to browse through antique stores and find fun antiques to decorate with and restore. If you are into antiques or restoring and repurposing old pieces of furniture or art work, you would LOVE this book! I’ve been addicted to the pages ever since getting it and can’t wait to use the creates juices that have been going on in my head! =)

2010 has been such a wonderful year! I have truly enjoyed meeting so many wonderful people around the Greater Seattle area and Northwest. I have had the privilege of walking through so many incredible experiences with such fabulous clients! From photographing precious newborns to a couple on their wedding day, 2010 has been a year of many blessings!

I am very excited about 2011 and the exciting new experiences that lay ahead! But before we get there, a little R&R is in order. Our studio will be closed beginning December 23rd – January 8th. We will still be responding to emails and continue to book while we’re getting a little rest, however all sessions will take place after the 8th of January.

We’ve got some really fun giveaways and specials that will be taking place in the New Year, so be sure to stay tuned in! Until then, I hope you ALL have a very special & wonderful holiday season with the friends and family that surround you! Thank you again for making 2010 such a fabulous year!

The road to motherhood is truly a miracle. However, at times, the journey to get there can be a difficult one. I know personally, the discomfort and aches, nausea and exhaustion often times left me feeling weary. But knowing that the end result was going to be this incredible child helped me get through the hard times. I absolutely love photographing expectant mothers and hearing their stories and excitement as we talk about what is to come. They are absolutely beautiful and radiant.

Tonight I had the privilege of doing just that, photographing a beautiful expectant mommy. It was the perfect way of closing our 2010 season, which has been a fantastic year. I have cherished meeting so many new and incredible people and cannot wait to meet the precious little ones of 2011 and continue on our journey!

I love the Christmas season. This season has always been filled with great memories, but now that we have a little one of our own, the memories that we are creating are such a blast! I love hearing her say “WOW!!” with excitement as we drive by houses decked out with lights or squealing “MAN!!!” when we see a Snowman. =) I love it.

Last night we decided to see how building a Gingerbread House would go with a 20-month old. Besides her asking for “bites” throughout the process, things went surprisingly well! =) Next year should be a little bit more interesting when we actually let her put the candies on the house =)

We also have this skinny red wall that has been driving me crazy. It has needed some type of wall art on it for a LONG time. And while I hunting for props at a local antique store I ran across this big window that holds 8×10 prints! I was super excited! I also used it for the Christmas Bazaar and now it hangs perfectly in its new home on the skinny red wall.

Has a year already past? Wow! It makes me a little sad that little Kaleb is getting ready to turn 1-year old! It seems like I was JUST taking his mommy’s maternity portraits and then his newborn portraits. I can’t believe we’ve already walked through {Baby’s First Year!} It has been so much fun to journey along with this family as they welcomed their son into the world and watch Kaleb grow during this first year. I absolutely LOVE our Baby’s First Year Collection because 1.) I get to see these adorable little ones over and over and 2.) Mommy & Daddy now have an awesome album to cherish and look back on!

Kaleb’s 1-year session was WAY too much fun! As many of us have seen, I had to throw in a cake eating party at the end of his shoot to celebrate his birthday. And let me tell you, it was SO – MUCH – FUN!!!! =) We were cracking up and having such a blast watching him devour his cupcake. Such a cutie!

Happy Birthday Kaleb! You are a precious, precious little baby and it was such a pleasure to be a part of your first year!
