FINALLY! A much needed break in the rain!

This morning Jonathan and I headed out for his Senior Portrait Session, which was a lot of fun! We started out down by the river and then made our way around various parts of Monroe.

I first met Jonathan about 3 years after photographing his older brother’s senior portraits and then later doing a shoot for Jonathan. I can’t believe we have already arrived to his graduation year. Time and gone by too quickly!

Congratulations Jonathan, on your graduation from Carnation H.S. as well as graduating with your A.A from Cascadia! Thank you for asking me to be a part of such a special time in your life!!

I had the wonderful opportunity to meet my client at the hospital today to welcome their second son, Thomas. Isn’t he adorable! I LOVE all his hair and dainty little features. He’s just beautiful and is only 17 hours {new} in these images.

I absolutely love going on this journey with all of our mommies and daddies. I get so excited when I get the word that baby has been born. I first meet Thomas’ mommy a few months back for her maternity session. He is definitely joining a beautiful and sweet family! I can’t wait for his newborn portrait session! In the meantime, here’s a preview from today’s in-hospital welcome!

When I first started professionally shooting I can honestly say that it was a lot of trial and error. I was intimidated to shoot manually, intimidated to shoot RAW, intimidated to work slowly. I love looking back at my work and seeing the growth both artistically as well as technically. I also cringe too… =) I still push myself and challenge myself every time I pick up my camera. To be content in my work isn’t good enough. Not for me nor for my clients.

One challenge that I have given myself this past year is to minimize my post processing i.e. to not rely on editing to fix my photographic in-camera mistakes. And to do this, I work slowly. I make sure that I have a properly composed and exposed my images. I do not over-shoot sessions and {hope} that I have good images. When I walk away from a session, I know that I have great images for my clients because I purposefully planned for it and know how to work my camera.

By no means am I wanting this post to sound like I am “tooting my own horn.” What I hope that it is, is a challenge to all of my fellow photographers who are either just beginning or are pursuing a career in photography to challenge yourself to NOT be content. To push yourself past your fears and intimidations so that you can provide your clients with the BEST IMAGES possible.

I love what I do and I work very hard to do exactly that. Have I “mastered” this art? By no means. Do I still mess up and get irritated with myself? Absolutely. But what I can say, is that by practicing and challenging myself, those {mess ups} are few and far between.

The below image was from a recent session of mine a few weeks ago and is show straight out of camera {sooc}.

I have never used my photography blog or business as a platform for displaying my beliefs. I am not the type of person that will blast my views in someones face. In fact, I find this type of display to be quite offensive. I am quiet, yet, not silent. I would rather {and hope} that my life speak much louder than my words. Because GOD knows – I mess up my words a lot.

Today, Earth Day may mean more to you than Good Friday.

I am okay with that.

If you know me, you know that I am passionate about protecting and preserving the Creation we live in. However, today I find my heart being stirred more about Good Friday as we near Easter Sunday. For me, Easter  is not all about the fluffy bunnies, egg hunts, and flowery dresses. It is much much more. It is the reason I breath – move – live – love… It is the reason I am who I am.

I understand we may not agree.

I am okay with that.

But today, I felt compelled to share the #1 thing that I am passionate about. It is this Passion that has allowed me to pour so much of what I love into the art that I am able to create and provide my clients.

I was introduced to this song today… This is the reason I am who I am. You may not like it…

I love my {job.} I know I say this a lot… but I do. I love meeting new lives that have entered this world. I love meeting new mommies and daddies who are in awe of their sweet child. I love meeting new couples who are absolutely in-love with each other. I love my job. If someone would have told me while in college working towards my Bachelors of Arts in Communication that I would later become a photographer, I would have thought they were joking. Arts have always been in my blood, first with music, then dance, and now visually. I love my job and consider it a gift.

This precious 7-day old gift came for a visit on Sunday for his newborn session. He is ever so sweet, just like his parents. It was a true joy to photograph him. Here is a sneak peek from his session. Enjoy!

I can’t believe my little Brooklynn is 2 years old already. The time has FLOWN by so quickly! Especially this last year. I have absolutely loved watching Brooklynn grow and change. She has such a sweet and funny little personality and absolutely LOVES to laugh. I am really excited about this next year. Her little conversations she now has with us are so fun and full of surprises.

Today I attempted to take her out quickly for a little 2-year session. It is 180 degrees different photographing my own child compared to my clients. It was a little cold today so we had to make things somewhat quick. Here’s a sneak peek from her session.  =)
