This was a very special maternity session for me because this beautiful mommy-to-be is one of my beautiful and sweet cousins. Adam’s Northwest Bistro & Brewery {Monroe, WA}

For a moment there I thought I was DT Seattle or DT Bellevue at an upscale restaurant dining… and not in Monroe, WA. This was my experience tonight at dinner.

Wow – I am SO excited that Adam Hoffman decided to open his restaurant in Monroe! This is JUST what this town needs to help bring a little bit more class to its downtown. We arrived at Adam’s Bistro and Brewery around 5:15Pm so the dining room wasn’t very packed, but filled up quickly. I would recommend making reservations if you are planning on dinner around 6PM or later. The atmosphere is so lovely and the food… well, it speaks for itself. But I will say, EXCELLENT!!!

I had the Baked Pasta and added crab, which as my 2-year old daughter said, “Mmmmm, dat’s good pasta!” And it WAS! Price: $15 + $3 to add crab. Jerry had the Your Burger made from sirloin with caramelized onions, mushroom and his choice of cheese, which was Swiss. Price: $12. The buns for the burgers are also made locally by Sky River Bakery on Main Street {love that!} I hope I can meet Chef Adam in person some day and compliment him in person!

If you live in or around Monroe, make reservations and be sure to visit Adam’s Bistro & Brewery. You won’t regret it!! Adam’s is open nightly, 4-10 p.m. Reservations: 360-794-4056.

Baby Malia is a part of our Baby’s First Year Plan, which is a blast! I love seeing this cutie every 3 months! Here are links to her 3-month session, and 6-month session. I can’t believe we’re only 3 months away from her 1st Birthday and Cupcake Smash!! Can’t wait!

Before starting the session I talked over the ideas that I had with Mom and mentioned that I would love to use some fun pops of yellow. And to my surprise, SO DID MOM! I just love it when things fall into place like that! Here is a fun sneak peek of this beauty! I just love her smile! Enjoy!

Have you ever seen a newborn pose and wondered, “How’d they do that?!” Well, I decided to share how one of those poses is done with you. It is SO important {and I have preached this before} that safety is #1 when photographing newborns. More and more I come across forums and chats about photographers trying poses while not keeping baby safe and it makes me cringe.

Below is an example of how to keep baby’s safety #1 while posing. These images are later composited and edited in Photoshop. DO NOT attempt this pose if baby is awake or not completely in a deep sleep.

Last week I had the fun opportunity of meeting with the beautiful Miss Emily for her 1-on-1 Mentorship where we discussed the business side of photography. Emily has a Bachelors of Fine Arts with an emphasis in photography and is also an incredible painter. She is a true artist and is eager to begin building her passion for photography once again. She will be joining me in June for a fun little workshop of shooting and learning.

I love to play in my garden. It is an escape for me, even while pulling weeds. Just being outside is so relaxing after a busy day or week. It is also fun to look back at old pictures to see how it has transformed from once a very confused space to a more organic yet maintained space.

I was recently in our garden and had to pull out my 100mm Macro to capture some of the life that is starting to show it’s face now that it is getting a little warmer.

While grabbing a few images I had a lightbulb moment when I saw a PERFECT place to do part of a newborn session in the garden. I have always enjoyed seeing different photographers take newborn sessions outdoors and have dreamed of being able to try my hand at it. But since we life in the beautiful, yet rainy Northwest, our days are more limited in the spring. However, I am hoping that I will be able to use my {secret garden} location for an upcoming newborn session!!! Here’s to NO RAIN!
